Isaiah 40:31

We are often drawn to help those in need, particularly children, but we do not always know where to start. The difficulties that are experienced by children all around the world can be daunting, and often we do nothing because we do not know what to do.

We do not have to do anything to assist children or anybody else, but if we choose to do something we should allow ourselves to do what we are drawn to do and we should seek nothing in return.

The purpose of this page is to show any who are interested that there are ways to provide assistance, that assistance does not have to be financial, and to perhaps offer some suggestions as starting points.

The links to organisations which we have provided are to organisations which we have been drawn to include, not because they are necessarily better or more worthy of support than the organisations we have not included. It is far more productive to support existing organisations than to attempt to re-invent the wheel or to establish competing charities.

Many of the links on this page will take you away from our site.

Greyhound Lines will provide free one way transportation between any two points in the continental United States (excluding Alaska) for runaway children returning home through its "Home Free" program, in conjunction with the National Runaway Switchboard.

The International Center for Missing & Exploited Children has many programs which enable us to assist at a level which we feel comfortable with. For example, we may distribute pictures, or display posters of missing children. We may provide internet links to their website, we may become a volunteer, or we may simply make a donation.

Volunteer Locally.

Other than missing children there are many other local projects which we can become involved with to assist children in need, or our community in general.

Volunteer Match will help match our talents with projects which need help within our own communities.

St Judes Ranch for Children

St. Jude's Ranch is always in need of volunteers to help out in every aspect of Ranch operation. Young and old, skilled and unskilled everyone with the desire to volunteer their time at St. Jude's Ranch is welcomed.

International Aid.

There are literally millions of children throughout the world who exist in sub human conditions.

There are children who exist in what can only be described as garbage dumps, children who exist in drought dust bowls with little food or water, children who live in communities ravaged by HIV-Aids, and children sold into slavery and sexual perversion.

There are children who cannot even conceive an existence which we take for granted. Children for whom a regular meal or fresh water are unheard of. Education and medicine are unimaginable luxuries to millions of children today, in the twenty-first century.

Paediatric HIV/AIDS

More than 2,000 children worldwide are infected with HIV each day.

In 2002, more than 720,000 babies were infected through mother-to-child transmission.

In industrialized nations, the results of research and effective intervention have drastically reduced mother-to-child transmission of HIV to less than 2%. There are proven low-cost interventions that have the capacity to save thousands of children's lives in the developing world if we act now.

The Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS Foundation creates a future of hope for children and families worldwide by eradicating paediatric AIDS, providing care and treatment to people with HIV/AIDS, and accelerating the discovery of new treatments for other serious and life-threatening paediatric illnesses.

There are many international aid agencies, and even if we do not feel comfortable with making a commitment to sponsor a child, we can make a donation to one of the agencies, or we can lead a group in sponsoring a child.

Elizabeth Glaser

Sponsoring a child at a cost of say $1.00 per month each, can be a worthwhile project for a Sunday School class for example. Teaching compassion and charity in an interactive environment through communication with the sponsored child.

Perhaps a weekly prayer group, or a separate church donation tin which would enable a child to be sponsored by the group, or congregation.

In fact, there are many ways that we can sponsor a child through working together in a way that we do not even notice the financial cost. Such as a donation tin and a notice board for communication with the sponsored child in the corner shop.

Any group whether that group is a bowling team, a sowing circle, a chess club, or book discussion group etc, could sponsor a child for a few quarters a month.

If you would prefer to donate your time to assist International child sponsorship programs you could consider becoming a volunteer representative, or distributing brochures or posters.

Annai Theresa Orphanage

The prime objectives of Annai Theresa Orphanage is to offer these uprooted children the warmth, food, shelter, education and vocational training so that they can find their own roots in the society and become responsible and respectable persons.

It does require a lot of effort, time money and care to make them self-reliant. Generous contributions by philanthropists, can sustain these activities on the desired scale, thereby offering these uncared children a new meaning in life.

Your contributions can help organizations take in more such unfortunate children off the streets and care for them.
